The Background: Target was about to open its first CityTarget store in Portland, Oregon.
The Challenge: With Portland's "Keep Portland Weird" mentality, the big box retailer needed to find a way to make its entrance in just the right kind of Portlandia way.
The Research/Strategy: To win over its weirdly wonderful residents, the team enlisted a local muralist duo to help us create the city's next mural: a crowd-sourced one. Using Instagram, out-of-home boards and a mobile site, we asked Portland residents to share photos of what they love most about their town. Proud PDXers flooded us with pictures of everything from cats to coffee cups...we turned all of these into a work of art, painted live inside the windows of the new store.
